What We Do
Our History
Watoto Kwanza is a nonprofit organization based in Tanzania dedicated to improving the lives and well-being of vulnerable children and young people through access to education, healthcare, protection, and social support. The organization is driven by the belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment and the opportunity to grow, learn, and reach their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Founded through the vision and dedication of a group of professionals led by Madame Janet Kiwia, Watoto Kwanza was established out of a deep passion for children and a commitment to addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable children in the Kawe community, where Madame Kiwia lives. Her commitment to making a lasting difference inspired the establishment of a center to provide care and support to children in need. Although these efforts began in 2007, Watoto Kwanza was officially registered as a nongovernmental organization (NGO) on January 23, 2023, marking an important milestone in the organization’s journey.
The primary objective of Watoto Kwanza is to provide comprehensive care, educational opportunities, healthcare services, and social support to vulnerable children and young people across Tanzania, particularly those who have been orphaned, abandoned, or affected by poverty and other challenging circumstances. Through its programs and community-centered approach, the organization seeks to protect children’s rights, promote their well-being, strengthen families and communities, and create opportunities for a brighter future.
Watoto Kwanza remains committed to building a society where every child is valued, protected, and empowered to thrive. By working collaboratively with families, communities, professionals, and partners, the organization strives to create lasting positive change and ensure that vulnerable children receive the care, guidance, and opportunities they need to develop into healthy, confident, and independent individuals.
